Centenary for Fenian James McNally Wilson

On Saturday, November 16, 2021, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, the Fenian Memorial Committee of America honored James McNally Wilson on the 100th anniversary of his death. He was one of the six Fenian escapees on the vessel Catalpa which sailed from Western Australia to New York in 1876 (see program).

McNally Wilson is buried in the same plot as his wife, Lucy and fellow Fenians Frank and Mary Byrne, who also fled the English–across the Atlantic–to America. The commemoration was followed by a social, fundraiser and remembrance of the Catalpa escapees at the nearby Galway Bay Pub. The funds will go towards tombstones for Michael Harrington and Thomas Hassett, both Catalpa escapees buried in Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.
